KAYO DOT is an avant-rock collective based in Brooklyn, New York, made up of several multi-instrumentalists and led by composer Toby Driver, who TimeOut New York has called “The city’s foremost composer of avant-chamber metal,” and, according to progressive rock websites across the Internet, “has consistently proven himself to be one of the most unique songwriters in modern music (-progarchives.com).”
Kayo Dot’s lineup has been ever-evolving, resulting in albums of greatly varying styles, which express a consistent gloomy and dreamlike, yet multicolored aesthetic via Driver as bandleader. The band’s members also have played in Secret Chiefs 3, Asva, Vaura, Tusk, PAK, Gregor Samsa, Friendly Bears, Hazel-Rah, Time of Orchids, and more.
Kayo Dot has toured extensively in the United States, Canada, and Europe, headlining and also opening for such notable acts as Secret Chiefs 3, Earth, Pelican, and others.
Kayo Dot released their debut album CHOIRS OF THE EYE on legendary composer/saxophonist John Zorn‘s TZADIK Records in 2003, and had later releases with post-metal labels Robotic Empire and Hydra Head. Their new album, GAMMA KNIFE, is Kayo Dot’s first self-release and can be streamed, purchased, and downloaded at http://kayodot.bandcamp.com
