SOT

sotslide

The band SOT first started back in 1992 when all three of us went to music high-school together. We where friends and enjoyed the same internal humor and decided to start this band. We never thought much about how this constellation of instruments are odd, it just happened to be the instruments we played.  As we started to write for SOT we realized this was something original and unique. We released a demo and had lots of fun with the music.

When high-school was over we all was busy developing ourselves in different directions musically and geographically but we had the occasionally SOT gig every now and then at obscure clubs and birthdays. Autumn 2009 I had some time off and Lars Andreas, the tuba player was on a solo tour with lots of spare time. We then began to write sketches of new SOT tunes and collaborated trough the internet. The result was so amazing for us that we knew we had to do something with this. Leading to the creation of the “Kind of Saltz” album.

The groundwork on the album was done in three intensive days. Hard work from early morning to long past midnight, then some beers and the same procedure again. Lars Andreas and me then did some recording at home before we returned to the studio for three days of mixing. We are extremely pleased by the end result. I love how every song has its own mood, and the whole colorful, imaginative experience there is listening to the whole album through.

2012 is going to be an exiting year for SOT! We have a distribution deal for our album to all stores in Norway an abroad, we´ll go on a two week tout in Sør-Trøndelag, Norway, we are playing in Krakow, Poland on the Krakow Percussion festival, and we are going to start the recording of our next album in January. All the tunes are ready so I´m very exited to see/Listen? how this turns out!

THE MERCURY TREE New Album To Be Released This Summer, New Song Available For Streaming

Since the release of their most recent album, Pterodactyls, last August, The Mercury Tree found itself at a turning point. Pterodactyls was an epic concept album whose songs felt very much of a piece, and upon its successful completion, it seemed time for a fresh approach. New bass player Aaron Clark has brought a spacier mood to the proceedings, using creative techniques such as E-Bowed bass.

On the new album, the band wanted to try to bridge the gap between its highly layered studio sound and its more direct live sound. To that end, many of the new songs are based around live looping. This allows a combination of complex layered guitar parts with the power and energy of organic live drums and bass. “We wanted the new songs to be both more progressive and more melodic,” explains guitarist Ben Spees. “Inflexus is one of the harder-edged examples of this new approach. We are really excited about these new songs and can’t wait to finish recording the new album.”

The new, still untitled album will be released this Summer. Listen to Inflexus below:

First of all, this Progstravaganza will be available via ProgSphere’s Bandcamp page, meaning that it will be available as high quality audio. Besides, every of the bands from the sampler will be presented with interviews, reviews, streams or any other special features on specially designed website which will be revealed on Sunday, April 1st.

If you check the video shown below, you might learn which bands are featured and see the part of the art cover, designed by Påhl Sundström (Klotet, Villebråd, Usurpress).

Progstravaganza X: Teaser No. 1

A lot of effort has been invested in the 10th part of Progstravaganza series of compilation, as it’s pretty clear that this is a jubilee edition of what we started almost two years ago. The thing with this part is that every of the bands off the compilation will be featured on our “special” mini-site where they will be presented with reviews, interviews and other features, plus via Prog Sphere Promotions we will run the promo campaigns for them, making sure that their music reach out new fans.

Shown below is the first teaser of the upcoming compilation, showcasing some of the bands that will be a part of this. Bands included, in order of appearance, are: We Could Build an Empire, On the Verge of Sanity, Sam Locke, The Skys, The Minstrel’s Ghost, Special Providence, Mighty Zazuum, Pyramidal.

ProgSphere’s Progstravaganza Compilation of Awesomeness – Part X will be available for free download and is set to be “released” on April 8th. It has to be mentioned that this is just one little sneak preview of the bands that will be featured on the compilation, there is certainly much more than this.

Fughu

fughu

Fughu is a truly modern progressive band with real rock attitude that willingly explores new horizons whilst celebrating the past. Fughu seamlessly fuses Argentinian roots and personal influences to create something unique.

The band was conceived on 31 January at 23:35 hours by the intriguing minds of Ariel Bellizio (guitar) and Alejandro López (drums) in the neighbourhood of Saavedra, Buenos Aires.  It was 1998 or maybe earlier and they scared the kids at school by playing their own versions of metal classics.  Of course after the show they were banned for life!

The school no longer exists but today many former students can be seen head banging at Fughu´s shows.

Time passed and with the addition of Marcelo Malmierca on keyboards, Juan Manuel López on bass and Santiago Bürgi on vocals, the quintet released their album “Absence” which led them to be selected by Dream Theater to open their Argentina show.

Fugu, the Japanese name for the blowfish, is a dish that is considered both exquisite and dangerous, the latter drawn from the toxic nature of parts of the fish itself.
